Envirothon 2012

This year we were able gather a team of students to compete at Envirothon. Envirothon is a competition where students visit five different stations, each one has a different topic; soils, forestry, current events, wildlife, and water. At each of those stations students take a test about those subject areas. Prior to the competition, students were given a problem to solve. This year the problem was to develop a plan to build an eco friendly stadium while addressing environmental concerns in the area of the development. They then give a 10 minute oral presentation on their solution and show a poster in addition.
The regional competition was Monday, May 7th. at the Cloquet Forestry Center. Our expectations for the day were to go, do the best we could, and to have fun while learning what Envirothon was about. At each station, our students felt very confident and they enjoyed the day. The team finished successfully in 2nd place out of 45 teams. We will be going down to the State competition on Monday, May 21, in Savage, MN.
