Cook County High School is located at the Cook County Schools Campus in Grand Marais, Minnesota.
In alignment with the district's mission, vision, and values, Cook County High School is committed to preparing each and every student to excel today and thrive tomorrow, while instilling a passion for learning. Our High School is highly dedicated and motivated to provide a high quality education to the students of Cook County.
Our core curriculum includes Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Physical Education, and Health. Cook County High School offers general elective courses in Advanced Power and Technology, Anatomy and Physiology, Art, Band, Choir, Culinary Arts, Fitness and Wellness, Metals and Welding, Native American Studies, Ojibwe, Robotics, Spanish, and Work-Based Learning.
We also offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses which include AP Government (one semester), AP Microeconomics (one semester), AP Calculus, AP English Literature and Composition, AP Human Geography, AP Spanish, AP World History, AP Studio Art: 2D Design, and the following are offered every other year AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, and AP Physics.
We also offer College in the Schools (CITS) course College Writing and Literature.
Cook County High School operats on a four period A/B block schedule. This means students will be enrolled in eight classes per semester, with four classes on A days and four classes on B days. Periods will be 88 minutes long with a 28 minute Advisory period in the middle of the day. Advisory period is a valuable time of day designed to give students a daily homeroom and a time during they day where they are able to check grades, work on homework, meet with teachers for help, complete make-up work/tests from missed class periods, meet with coaches or supervisors for various activities, and class meetings/presentations.
In addition to the standard curriculum, Cook County High School offers services for students with special needs as well as curriculum for gifted and talented students.
