Youth Driver Education

ISD #166 offers a full-service driving education program. Students will be able to complete the 30-hour classroom portion, take the permit knowledge test, and do the 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction on our campus. Included in the program will be a "Trooper Night", which allows students to deduct 10 hours of logged driving time if they attend with a parent. Students must turn 15 years old by the last day of class to register.

Classroom Instruction
The classroom instruction consists of 30 hours and is taught by our MDE-licensed educator. Once a student successfully completes the 30 hours of classroom instruction they will be provided a blue card marking the completion of the course and meeting the necessary requirements to take their Class D permit test.

Students can register and take the class at the age of 14 but must be 15 years old to take the permit test.

Attendance is mandatory. If a student is absent for more than one class they will have to retake the entire 10-day class course as per MN State rules. One makeup day will be provided at the end of the 10-day session.

Behind-the-Wheel
Once a student completes the classroom portion and passes the Class D Instruction Permit test, they will be eligible to begin the required six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.

The 30-Hour Driver's Education classes are offered twice a year with sessions during the Winter and Summer
